Do you often wonder what it takes for a website to be called a Web 2.0 website?
Is it just those esoteric logos, large fonts, sparse text and cool Ajax tricks or is there something more to it? Here at Att1tude.com most of our clients who insist on having a Web 2.0 website basically have no idea of what Web 2.0 actually means and it is not their fault; no solid information exists on the Internet regarding Web 2.0 and what makes your website a Web 2.0 website.Web 2.0 entails a complete paradigm shift where the design, instead of massaging the ego of the Web design team, caters to the needs of the users. Web 2.0 websites are no longer bloated pieces of design: they are sleek, they have pleasant color schemes, they don't rely upon heavy graphics and churlish animations and they focus less on design and more on content presentation. Blogs and the various social networking websites are the primary examples of some of the well-known Web 2.0 websites. Ajax of course plays a big part in making Web 2.0 websites more interactive and faster. Ajax is a technique, carried out with the help of specially written JavaScript libraries that lets you update information on a webpage without having to refresh that webpage. This technique uses a mixture of client side and server side scripting. This creates web applications similar to desktop applications. Some people think that Ajax is the biggest feature of Web 2.0 websites. This isn't necessarily true.As mentioned above Web 2.0 is an ideological shift. In Web 2.0, websites are less intrusive and more participative. They blend in with the preferences of their users. You can call them the second-generation websites that are giving a new meaning to Internet-based empowerment where ideas and opinions can be shared unencumbered by geographical and technological boundaries. |
